For Regular Seasons
SCCC has two choruses that rehearse and perform separately and collaboratively.
The ‘Prep Chorus’ is intended for younger and less experienced singers. There is no audition necessary to join the Prep Chorus. This chorus meets for a shorter period of time and performs less complex music as well as some pieces with the 'Advanced Chorus'.
Prep Chorus rehearsals are Tuesdays from 5:30-6:15pm
Singers in the ‘Advanced Chorus’ will need to complete a placement audition at one of the first three rehearsals in September. This audition is used predominantly to hear vocal range and the ability to match pitch. The Advanced Chorus rehearses for a longer period of time and performs more difficult music as well as some pieces with the 'Prep Chorus'.
Advanced Chorus rehearsals are Tuesdays from 5:30-7:00pm
Open Auditions and First Rehearsals
Auditions are held at the beginning of the first three rehearsals. New members are encouraged to come to the first rehearsal for auditions and orientation. We will accept new members for the season until the end of September.
September 17th is our first rehearsal of the 2019-2020 season... see you then!
A word about auditions:
Singers who want to join the Advanced Chorus take part in a 'gentle' audition process that determines the young singer's ability to match pitch and additional advanced skills. This process allows us to place singers in the appropriate voice section and level.
If a singer is not yet ready to join the chorus we usually a preparatory chorus experience to help develop musicianship skills.
We are an organization that believes that every child can sing. We also realize that children's voices develop at different times and sometimes they are not yet ready to join a choir. Our audition process is designed to make children feel comfortable to demonstrate their best singing and musicianship. If the young singer can match and hold pitch, blend with other singers and stay in rhythm he/she will do well in our audition.
* Please bring any song that the singer knows well to use as an audition piece. He/she will sing 1 verse a capella (without accompaniment).
*Singers will be asked to match and echo melodic and rhythmic patterns as well as intervals.
